What are the preventive measures against radiation injury for thoriated tungsten electrodes?

1. Thoriated tungsten electrodes should have special storage equipment, and should be hidden in iron boxes when stored in large quantities and installed with exhaust pipes.
2. When welding with closed cover, the cover should not be opened during the operation, and when operating manually, air-supplied protective helmet or other effective measures must be worn.
3. Special grinding wheels should be provided for grinding thoriated tungsten electrodes, dust removal equipment should be installed in the grinding machine, and the grinding debris on the ground of the grinding machine should be frequently swept away in a wet manner, and be concentrated and buried in a deep place for disposal.
4. Dust mask should be worn when grinding thoriated tungsten electrode. After contacting the thoriated tungsten electrode, we should wash our hands with flowing water and soap, and often wash our working clothes and gloves.
5. Choose reasonable specifications when welding and cutting to avoid excessive burns of thoriated tungsten electrodes.
6. As far as possible, do not use thoriated tungsten electrode, but use cerium tungsten electrode or lanthanum tungsten electrode, because the latter two are non-radioactive.
