Tungsten electrode classification and selection in application
2022-02-10
Thoriated tungsten electrode is the most commonly used tungsten electrode abroad. It is easy to induce arc and the arc burning is stable.

Thoriated Tungsten Electrode
Thoriated tungsten electrode is the most commonly used tungsten electrode abroad. It is easy to induce arc and the arc burning is stable. However, it has trace radioactivity and is widely used in DC welding. Usually used for carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloy and titanium metal DC welding.
Cerium tungsten electrode
Cerium tungsten electrode is one commonly used in China. The electron emission ability is higher than thoriated tungsten, and it is an ideal non-radioactive material to replace thoriated tungsten. It is suitable for direct current or alternating current welding, especially in the small current on the railed pipe, small precision parts of the welding effect is best.
Lanthanum tungsten electrode
Lanthanum tungsten electrodes are suitable for both direct current and alternating current at medium and high currents. Lanthanum tungsten is closest to the conductivity of thorium tungsten, and it can replace thorium tungsten conveniently and quickly without changing any welding parameters, which can maximize the comprehensive use effect.
Zirconium Tungsten Electrode
Zirconium tungsten electrodes are mainly used for AC welding under special conditions where it is necessary to prevent the electrode from contaminating the weld metal. It performs well at high load currents. Suitable for AC welding of magnesium, aluminum and their alloys.
Yttrium Tungsten Electrode
Yttrium tungsten electrode has a long and thin arc beam with a high degree of compression during welding, and its depth of fusion is greatest at medium and high currents. It can be plastically processed into thin plates up to 1mm thick and bars and wires of various specifications. Mainly used in the military and aerospace industries.
