What are the electrode material requirements for TIG welding?

Electrode material for TIG welding has a great influence on the stability of TIG welding arc, continuous working time and welding quality. The requirements for electrode materials are:

(1) high temperature resistance requires that the electrode does not melt and burn in the welding process. Otherwise, not only does the electrode itself consume very quickly, but also makes the arc drift, resulting in arc instability. In addition, once the electrode melts, the electrode material into the molten pool will contaminate the weld, resulting in welding defects, affecting the quality of the weld.

(2) strong emission of electrons requires the electrode material of the escape work is small. Especially at high temperatures should have a strong thermal electron emission capacity.

(3) large current-carrying capacity requires the electrode has good electrical and thermal conductivity, can carry a large current without overheating.

(4) good grinding and processing of the electrode surface needs to be ground, with a certain degree of dimensional accuracy and end angle, so as to ensure that the electrode clamping accuracy and reliable conductivity, to maintain the stability of the arc, improve the concentration of the arc heat.

(5) small radioactivity certain substances used to improve the electrode's ability to emit electrons are radioactive, so the electrode material should be selected with small radioactivity.
